The Simplest Sweater by Juliet Romeo Juliet is a great first sweater and uses simple yarn overs to increase the yoke. It has a boat neck and is easy to dress up or down and a bit of waist shaping.

The Simplest Sweater

The Flax Sweater by Tin Can Knits, is also a great first sweater option. Flax is a top-down raglan sleeve construction with garter stitch panels at the tops of the shoulders and down the sleeves. This is a straight sweater, with no waist shaping and is unisex enough that it looks great on both men and women! Tin Can Knits patterns are sized for the whole family from newborns up through 4XL. Our shop sample is knit in theblank size out of Berroco Vintage.

The Flax Sweater

The last sweater option is another Tin Can Knits pattern, the Harvest Cardigan. It is a open cardigan knit seamlessly from the top down. It has some interesting construction techniques because you start with the back of the collar and then pick up stitches for the rest of the sweater. The garter edging is knit as you work the body of the cardigan, which is wonderful because after you have finished your sleeves, you are ready to wear your brand new cardigan!

Note: This is not a formal class, just a structured and supported knit along. We will be here to hold your hands and answer your questions on these three patterns, and provide our tips and tricks along the way. This SSK is a great way to tackle a first sweater, or a new style - like a cardigan instead of a pullover.
